THE FEDERAL MINISTRY OF THE NIGERIAN AVIATION
FEDERAL MINISTRY OF AVIATION,
NIGERIA.
Head Base,Abuja FCT.
Tel : +2347090302314.
Profile
The Nigeria aviation industry is as agelong as the Nigerian state herself. It is a metamorphosis of radical economic and developmental thoughts hinge on two principles.
(1) That a country's air-traffic is as enormously important as the country herself in terms of viability and variables owning to the fact that it are a channel for global trade, economic advancement and (diplomatic) relationships.
(2) The evolving and dynamic nature of aviation science/technology itself.
Prior to 1950, aviation matters where assigned to the then Public Works Department (PWD). However, 1950 saw it taking its first drastic and regional step to becoming a separate department viz a viz the Department of Civil Aviation in the Public Service of Nigeria.
At independence in 1960, it was relocated as a portfolio in the Ministry of Transport and subsequently, became a distinct ministry empowered by the enactment of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Act. Of 1964 empowering it to make policies for and, regulates air navigation as a ministry. In that wise, it became the direct responsibility of the ministry to oversee air transportation, airports development-cum-standardization, provision of aviation infrastructural services and so forth as may arise from a wide spectrum of needs of the evolving nature of aviation both national and globally. Thus, the Federal Ministry is saddled with the responsibility to formulate and manage government's aviation policies. However, the Nigerian aviation industry, enjoyed quantum leaps, in the then Nigeria Airways, spiralling into a multi-faceted, profit-driven sector of the national economy following the oil boom era in the early 1970's until it was brought to a somersault by the military interregnum characterized by military exploitations in the shapes of growing costs, poor management, bad policies and unfriendly investment environment.
